What is Pregnancy?

First Trimester (1-12 Weeks)

In the early stages of pregnancy, the body starts to adapt. Even though there aren't many noticeable physical changes, a lot is happening inside. Hormone levels change drastically, the uterus starts supporting the growth of the placenta and fetus, and the blood supply increases. By the end of the first trimester, all of the baby's organs start to form. So, it's really important for pregnant women to eat healthy foods and take folic acid supplements. Oh, and the risk of miscarriage is quite high at this stage, so it's crucial to be extra careful and have regular check-ups with the doctor.

Second Trimester (13-28 Weeks)

The second trimester is usually more comfortable. Nausea often subsides, and the belly starts to grow. Even though nausea decreases, pregnant women might still experience leg cramps, heartburn, increased appetite, varicose veins, back pain, and nasal congestion. By the 20th week, the baby can start to move and hear the mother's voice. During this trimester, various screening tests are also conducted to ensure the baby is developing well.

Third Trimester (29-40 Weeks)

Here comes the last trimester! The baby becomes more active, the brain develops rapidly, and the baby can open its eyes, suck its thumb, and respond to light. By 34-36 weeks, the baby's lungs are mature and ready to function on their own. Pregnant women need to have regular check-ups, including urine tests, blood pressure measurements, and fetal heart rate monitoring. All these are important for preparing for childbirth.

How Pregnancy Happens

Pregnancy occurs when a sperm fertilizes an egg during ovulation. The fertilized egg then moves to the uterus and begins the implantation process. If implantation is successful, pregnancy begins.

Signs of Pregnancy

Some signs of pregnancy include missed periods, headaches, spotting, weight gain, heartburn, constipation, breast changes, and nausea (morning sickness).

Routine Check-ups

Routine check-ups are crucial to ensure the health of both mother and baby. Blood tests and ultrasounds are performed to monitor the baby's development and determine the baby's gender in the second trimester.

Pregnancy Complications

Regular check-ups are essential to detect and prevent complications such as high blood pressure, gestational diabetes, preeclampsia, anxiety and depression, miscarriage, anemia, and stillbirth.

Taking Care During Pregnancy

To stay healthy during pregnancy, women should eat nutritious foods, take vitamin supplements, stay hydrated, have regular check-ups, avoid raw foods, not smoke or drink alcohol, stay active, get enough rest, and manage stress well.

When to See a Doctor

If you experience symptoms like bleeding, lower abdominal pain, back pain, headaches with vision problems, or contractions before 37 weeks of pregnancy, see a doctor immediately.
